Barrett's oesophagus

  • Columnar epithelium with intestinal metaplasia replaces normal squamous mucosa
  • Increased risk of adenocarcinoma (Male > Female)
  • Associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux
  • Endoscopic screening of patients with Barrett's may reduce cancer mortality
