Night terror

Night terrors are seen in children, affecting 6% of 4-12 year olds, and resolve by adolescence. The child usually awakes suddenly during the first third of the night in a state of panic and fearfulness. There are associated autonomic responses, e.g. tachycardia and dilated pupils. Affected children are not easily comforted, but, when they are fully awake (usually the next morning), they have no recollection of the event.
