Cat-scratch fever
Cat-scratch fever is caused by infection with Gram-negative bacterium Bartonella henselae, which lives in cats' blood. The original scratch is followed 7-14 days later by painful, hot, regional lymphadenitis and flu-like symptoms. Some patients may suffer altered mental state and convulsions. Treatment is with antibiotics.
